Description
The footbridge at Dingwall Station is a significant structure dating from 1886. It is part of a single storey and attic shallow U-plan range that faces the entrance court to the west and the down platform to the east. The building is constructed from red tooled, coursed rubble, featuring contrasting tooled ashlar dressings.
The outer bays of the building project with crowstepped gables and finials, and there is an off-centre porch. The windows are hoodmoulded and feature mullioned and transomed designs, along with a small gabled dormer and multi-pane glazing. The roof is slate with red pottery ridge tiles, and it has tall ridge and well-head coped stacks.
On the down platform elevation, there is a glazed 7-bay canopy supported by decorative cast-iron columns. To the north, there is a timber-clad single storey L-plan range, now known as the Shunters' Bar, which includes a re-entrant angle infilled with a later flat-roofed extension. This area also features an entrance porch supported by cast-iron columns and has a slate roof.
Adjacent to the main range on the down platform is a staff shelter, which is a near square, painted timber-clad, single storey building with two bays. It has a panelled door and a tripartite window, topped with a piended slate roof that has projecting eaves.
On the up platform, there is a single storey, painted timber-clad 8-bay range with multi-pane glazing and a shallow pitched felt roof, which includes a single brick ridge stack.
The footbridge itself is made of cast iron and features a lattice balustrade.
