Description
1B and 4 Tulloch's Buildings, along with 1A and 11-13 Ardconnel Terrace in Inverness, date from around 1870. This is a three-storey, nine-bay tenement with access to the upper floors via ornamental cast-iron framed platforms at the front. The building is constructed from rubble.
The elevation facing Ardconnel Terrace features end bays that are advanced and have single stop-chamfered windows. The centre section has timber decks supported by three tiers of three cast-iron columns. The first-floor beams appear to be steel (possibly a replacement), while the second-floor beams are made of cast iron, and the eaves are timber corbelled. The railings consist of alternating cast and wrought iron balusters.
The rendered central part has seven recessed bays with segmental arched doors at each end, which have later porches added at the ground floor. There are twin segmental arches leading to a semi-spiral stair and pend, and the windows have timber architraves. The plain rear has seven bays, and there is a small extension to No 13. The slate roof has stacks that have been heightened and rebuilt in brick, with two on the front roof slope, two on the rear wallhead, and one on each gable. The windows are sash and case, featuring a four-pane glazing pattern at the front and a twelve-pane pattern at the rear, with several windows altered.
