Description
The lighthouse at Chanonry Point was designed by Alan Stevenson in 1846 and is built in an Egyptian style using stugged ashlar with broached margin drafts, which are painted. It features a short circular tower topped with a cast-iron balustrade. The base of the tower is surrounded by a semi-circular single-storey block that creates a three-bay front. The central bay contains a door at the base of the tower, which is framed by a battered pilastered doorpiece with a block pediment, and there are blind openings at the ends of the semi-circular block.
Adjacent to the lighthouse is the keeper's house, which is a single-storey structure with five bays, where the end bays are lower than the central section. The centre bay and the ends of the three central bays are accentuated by broad battered pylons. The house retains its original 16-pane glazing pattern and features a battered pylon chimney, along with a modern lean-to porch. The property is also marked by square-plan ashlar gate-piers and a coped wall.
