Description
The Gaelic Church on Church Street in Inverness was built between 1792 and 1793, with alterations made by James Smith in 1822 and further modifications by Matthews and Lawrie from 1885 to 1887. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with droved ashlar dressings. Its six-bay front facing Church Street features tall round-arched windows that have keyblocks and imposts, which contain timber loop tracery. The window openings at the end bays extend down to form corniced doorpieces, and the church has rusticated quoins at its angles. The interior was completely redesigned between 1885 and 1887 and underwent additional alterations in 1936. Notably, it houses a pulpit dating back to 1668.
