The Grange, Leys Castle

The Grange at Leys Castle is a two-story house dating from circa 1860, designed with a symmetrical north-facing facade and projecting north and south wings creating a cruciform plan. The exterior is harled with tooled ashlar margins and dressings. The north front features a projecting central bay with a recessed porch beneath a shallow four-centred arch; similarly arched windows illuminate the return flanks. The first floor is jettied and corbelled with a gabled section and a central oriel window. Hoodmoulded first-floor windows in the recessed outer bays are set back under gablets. Ground-floor oriels are present in the outer bays, and a canted ground-floor window is located in the east gable. Window glazing is varied. The building has channeled quoins, projecting margined flues in the centre of the east and west gables, terminating in corniced stacks, and slate roofs. A lower wing extends to the rear, distinguished by a jerkin-headed gable. The statutory address is Leys Castle, The Grange.
