Description

7 Lorraine Gardens in Glasgow is a terrace of ten two-bay houses, likely designed by architect James Thomson around 1880-1890. The buildings are three storeys high, with attics and basements, and feature an astylar design. The terminal two bays are slightly taller and act as pavilions, adorned with a consoled mutule cornice.

The polished ashlar façade is channelled at the ground level. On the right side, steps lead down to a tripartite doorpiece with glazed sidelights and a fanlight above the penultimate doorpiece. Above the doors are architraved windows, while to the left, a canted window extends from the basement to the first floor. The second-floor windows are architraved and evenly spaced across the terrace. All windows are sash with plate glass glazing. A continuous band course runs above the ground level, with a cill band at the second floor of the pavilions, an eaves course, and a plain main cornice, featuring a mutule at the pavilions. The buildings have tall corniced axial stacks and slate roofs.

The flank of No. 1 features a polished ashlar asymmetrical design facing Lorraine Road, maintaining similar detailing. The flank of No. 10 has a three-bay elevation that is styled like the main terrace. The rear elevations are made of coursed droved ashlar. Notable features include good leaded glass vestibule doors for Nos. 8 and 9, as well as cast-iron railings leading to the steps and basement. There are three pairs of tall square ashlar gatepiers with chamfered arrises and ball finials at the carriageway, positioned opposite Nos. 1, 9, and 10.
