Description
This building, located at 525, 527, and 529 Great Western Road in Glasgow, was designed by architect James Thomson around 1885. It is an astylar block of two tenements, featuring Thomsonesque detailing, and stands three storeys tall with attics. The ground floor has modern shops. Each tenement consists of eight bays and is constructed from polished ashlar, with the stone of No 519 having been cleaned. The first-floor windows are connected by moulded band courses that step up over the windows and are corniced. The second-floor windows are set in recessed architraves and are flanked by shallow pilasters with indented capitals. The building has sash windows with four-pane glazing and a heavy string course at the second-floor cills. The eaves cornice is deep with a plain parapet, and there are various dormer shapes on the slate roofs.
