Description

1874-76. Long terrace block stepped in slope forming entire E side of Shields Road between Albert Drive and Leslie Street. Matching end blocks of 3 storeys and basement, 4 windows including splayed outer bays; centre houses each 2 storeys, attics and basements, 3-window with architraves, divided into pairs by banded pilasters, doorpieces paired except at ends: banded masonry to ground floor. Cill-band to 1st, modillion cornice to attic storeys; 6 have single round-headed attic windows under pedimented parapets with acroteria and ball-finials, 6 houses have 3 dormers each with pediment treatment and acroteria. Return flanks with end triplets and detail as before. Original cast- iron area railings to flanks and also Nos 553 and 605 to 609 (odd nos). Original stone gatepiers.
