14 Sardinia Terrace, Cecil Street, Hillhead, Glasgow

Possibly J T Rochead, circa 1855. Terrace of 24, 2-bay houses of 2 different designs, grouped 10-9-5, outer groups alike, each house comprised of entrance bay flanked by canted window. Ashlar sandstone. Roll-moulded arrises to canted windows, architraves to principal openings. Gablet coped stone balustrades to steps up to entrances, some retaining pyramidal caps or ball finials. Broad tripartite doorpieces with glazed side-lights and fanlights in corniced and architraved surrounds with pulvinated friezes. 1st floor cill band.

NOS 14-22 AND 44-60: 3-storey and basement houses. Single windows above entrances to 1st and 2nd floors. Canted windows extending from basement through to 1st floor crowned with pierced fretwork parapet: stone mullioned bipartite windows behind to 2nd floor. Eaves course and cornice.

NOS 24-42: gabled 2-storey, basement and attic houses. Entrance bays with single window at 1st floor, and diamond set ashlar stack at wallhead above with moulded base. Canted windows in flanking bays extending from basement through to 1st floor where corniced; attic window in gablehead above. Eaves band, stepping in kneeler at gableheads and decoratively below wallhead stacks.

Timber sash and case windows with plate glass, 4- and 6-pane glazing patterns, some modern replacements. Grey slates.. Corniced stacks to mutual gables with tapering square section cans.

INTERIORS: not seen, 2000.

RAILINGS: spearhead iron railings remaining in run in front of higher numbered houses, with decorative gateposts.
