Hall, Stockwell Free Church, 149-153 Albert Drive, Glasgow

Stockwell Free Church, located at 149-153 Albert Drive in Glasgow, was designed by John B Wilson and built between 1886 and 1887 in the Free Italian Renaissance style. The church is constructed of yellow ashlar and features a prominent campanile with angle buttresses. The belfry stage has tall, paired round-arched openings, and above it is an octagonal section with pilastered angles and a facetted dome.

The church has a full-height canted elevation facing Albert Street, which includes columned and pedimented doorways on the outer faces. The angles of the building are highlighted by elaborate Corinthian columns that frame bipartite windows with deeply recessed round-arched heads, each containing sculptured panels above the main entablature. The roof is adorned with a decorative ventilator and a parapet. The side elevation consists of three bays with tripartite windows at the gallery level.

Inside, the narthex features a coved ceiling and a mosaic floor. The main body of the church has a panelled gallery with a very deep section opposite the altar, which is set into a canted projection. Decorative tie beams are present, along with modern fittings throughout the interior.
