99-101 Douglas Street, Glasgow

276 St Vincent Street in Glasgow is a terrace of plain classical houses built around 1830-1840, consisting of three storeys and a basement. The terrace occupies one half of a block and features three bays for each house, with four or five-bay end sections and returns. Two of the three-bay houses are stepped up the slope towards Douglas Street. The exterior is made of ashlar, partly painted, with some channelling at the basement, and mainly features sash and case windows. The building has an eaves cornice and a blocking course.

The elevation facing St Vincent Street has 25 bays arranged in a pattern of 5-4-3-3-3-3-4, with each entry located at the head of steps that oversail the basement area. The entries are in the right bays, with the central entrance at No 280 featuring pilastered doorpieces. The entrance at No 278 was added to the left in a former window bay. The ground floor windows are architraved and corniced, with some alterations; No 272 has an additional canted window. The first-floor windows are also architraved, although some architraves have been removed, and there are blocked windows on the first and second floors, specifically in the first bay from the west. The second-floor windows have dropped architraves, with some removed as well. There are axial stacks present.

The elevation to Douglas Street consists of 10 bays arranged in a 4-3-3 pattern, with the second bay from the south being blind. The ground floor openings are set in arched recesses, featuring shouldered lintels for the doorways supported by Doric columns on pedestals, along with a ground floor level band and plain windows. There is an entry to No 101 Douglas Street from West George Lane.

On the elevation to Pitt Street, the first bay from the north is blind at both the ground and second floors, with detailing similar to that on St Vincent Street. There is a half-concealed window in the second bay from the south, covered by a double pilastered doorpiece that is blocked. The building has paired, corniced wallhead stacks with a linking parapet. The terrace was extended to the north in 1987-1988.

The interior includes groin vaulted vestibules in Nos 266, 272, and 276.
