Description
Park Church Tower, designed by J T Rochead in 1858, is an important landmark in Glasgow, especially when viewed alongside the towers of Trinity College. The tower is constructed of painted ashlar and features a square Gothic design divided into four stages, with angle buttresses that rise to tall pinnacles at the corners.
The eastern portal is set beneath a triangular gable and includes a pointed arch doorpiece adorned with dogtooth and ball flower moulding, as well as nook shafts. The lower wall surface is plain, punctuated by small lancet windows. The third stage of the tower has hood moulded lancets, while the fourth stage features a corbel course and two gablet two-light windows. The roof line of the tower is accentuated by angle and intermediate pinnacles that are connected by a pinnacle parapet.
