Description
1195, 1201, and 1205 Argyle Street is a range of classical tenements built around 1845, set on a gradual slope. The building has four storeys and features polished ashlar on the front, with squared stone on the rear elevation. The windows are all sash and case, framed in architraves, with mainly 8-pane glazing.
At the ground floor, there is a modern shop at nos 1185-1201, while nos 1203-1205 retain an original shop front that includes a pedimented doorpiece and a coffered entrance hall leading to a back workshop. The first floor has a moulded cill band, with windows that are either consoled and corniced or have block pediments, some adorned with central rosettes. Nos 1209-1231 feature occasional projecting cills and sculpted apron panels with rosettes. The second floor windows are corbelled, while the third floor windows are plain. The building is topped with an eaves cornice and a blocking course, and it has corniced axial stacks. There is some modern glazing on the east side.
