Description

David Barclay, architect; circa 1900. 13-bay terrace of 6

houses on steeply sloping site. 2-bay, 2 storey and basement

except No 45, 3-bay 3-storey house. Polished red sandstone,

stugged at basement.

Steps oversailing basement to pilastered doorway, double leaf

panelled doors with curved ashlar lintel, fanlight with small

pane glazing, sidelights with decorative heads. Bipartite

window above door. To right, 4-light full-height bow window.

Sash windows, plate glass, small pane glazing to upper sashes

of 1st floor windows. Continuous band courses over ground at

end houses. Overhanging eaves supported on timber brackets.

Corniced axial stacks, slate roofs, tile cresting, skews at

party walls and decorative skew-putts.

Solid coped parapet to steps. Ashlar retaining/boundary wall

to garden.

No 45: 3-bay, 3-storey with full-height bow windows flanking

door.

No 47 with 3-light bow dormer to right, bipartite dormer to

left.

Flank to Dowanhill Street single bay with 5-light bow to

ground; adjoins No 106 Dowanhill Street. 106 Dowanhill Street

similarly detailed: asymmetrical 2-bay elevation with steps

(modern) to advanced left bay with small leaded lights. Right

bay with bow to ground, 2 single light windows to 1st.

Dormers set in slate mansard roof. Coursed ashlar flank.
