Description
The Daily Express Building, located at 159-195 Albion Street in Glasgow, was designed by architect Sir Owen Williams in 1936, with alterations and large additions made in 1986. This large rectangular, four-storey newspaper office block features a glass front and is constructed with a reinforced concrete portal frame, which is clad in glass and black vitrolite. The windows are metal framed.
On the ground floor facing Albion Street, there are open loading bays, supported by giant concrete cantilevers that hold up the first floor. A tall rooftop addition was completed by Frank Burnet, Bell and Partners between 1986 and 1988.
