Description

Circa 1876. Gothic terrace of 14 houses in 2-bay mirrored pairs. 2-storeys, attic and basement with advanced 3-storey 4-bay terminal pavilions; latter with outer bays advanced.

Polished ashlar, partly stonecleaned. Steps oversailing basement to paired tripartite doorpieces with glazed sidelights and pointed-arch fanlight with hood-mould foliate/portrait-head label stops. Engaged columns flank door, with various foliate capitals; double-leaf panelled doors. Flanking doorpieces, projecting 2-storey canted windows rising to ornamental crenellated parapet. At pavilions, single storey projecting square windows; at 1st pointed arch tripartite with continuous hood-mould; to 2nd, basket arch tripartites.

Otherwise all windows single light sashes with plate glass glazing; some small pane leaded glazing to upper sashes of No 34. Continuous band course over ground, roll moulding at eaves cornice. Gablet dormer with pointed arch hood-moulded light above canted windows, otherwise dormers with piended overhanging roofs; breaking through wallhead of 2-storeyterrace.

Polished ashlar 3-bay flanks; details mainly similar to main elevation. Rear elevation droved ashlar; 2/3 storey projecting square bays to most houses.

Good cast-iron railings to steps and basement. Coped coursed rubble boundary wall to lane with piended roofed coal-sheds to most houses.
