Description
St Thomas' Roman Catholic Church, built between 1954 and 1957 by T S Cordiner, is a cruciform-plan church positioned with its flank facing the street. The exterior is faced in red brick with concrete detailing. A prominent feature is a large triptych sculpture depicting St Thomas, located on the liturgical east gable, which is illuminated by large windows on its sides. The church has tall, flat-lintelled windows with metal glazing bars. The entrance is situated on the left side of the street front, and a baptistry that opens into the vestibule projects from the gable. The roofs are slated. The boundary wall along the street is primarily made of rock-faced red ashlar, with brick gatepiers and 1950s iron railings.
