Description

105-113 St Vincent Street is an Edwardian classical commercial building designed by Frank Southorn between 1911 and 1912. It stands seven storeys tall with an attic and features ten bays arranged in a pattern of 1-3-2-3-1. The facade is divided into five vertical sections, with the second and fourth sections projecting outward. The ground floor is finished with channelled polished granite up to three-quarters of its height, while the upper floors are made of ashlar, and the flank walls are constructed of brick.

The building has three arched entrances that are symmetrically placed and adorned with swagged number panels above. In the western bays, two tripartite windows with inner piers and central console heads are still intact. The ground floor features a mutule cornice over a fascia, with bold corbelled balconies at the second floor that support seated figures. The windows are sash and case, some of which include margin panes. The outer and central windows on the first and second floors are vertically linked by keyblocked continuous architraves, a design that is repeated on the third to fifth floors with scroll keystones.

A continuous simple cornice runs along the second floor, while giant swagged anta orders flank the projecting bays on the third to fifth floors. The main mutule cornice crowns the building, and the parapet attic is pierced with windows, flanked by scrolls and carved lion heads at the projecting bays. The roof is a green tiled mansard style with corniced stacks. The properties numbered 109-113 feature a polished granite curb and piers that support decorative cast-iron railings leading to unusual basement steps.
