Description
65 Southpark Avenue is a classical terrace of five townhouses, built around 1852. This two-storey and basement structure features 15 bays and is constructed from painted ashlar, with the basement finished in droved stone. The design includes a band course at ground floor level, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course.
The west elevation facing Southpark Avenue has pilastered doorpieces at the top of steps to the right. The ground floor windows are corniced, while the upper floors feature architraved windows. Number 73 has a full-height canted bay, and decorative cast-iron balustrades adorn the entrance steps.
The north return elevation consists of three bays, mostly with blind windows that have 12-pane glazing, along with blind basement windows. The rear elevation has the basement raised to the level of the full ground floor, with some extensions present.
The windows are timber sash and case, with No. 65 having 12-pane glazing and the other houses featuring plate glass. The roofs are covered in grey slate, with mutual and wallhead stacks.
The interiors of No. 11, seen in 2010, retain their original layout and include elaborate decorative plasterwork such as cornices, ceiling roses, and corbels in the main spaces. The staircase features cast-iron balusters and a timber handrail, while the former dining and drawing rooms have painted stone fireplaces, possibly marble. Timber panelled doors and shutters are also present.
The boundary walls and railings include an ashlar cope along the street, although the railings are missing. The rear, side, and mutual boundary walls are made of rubble.
