Description

F Burnet and W J Boston, architects; circa 1900. Edwardian baroque of tenements with baronial details occupying corner site on St Georges Road/Woodlands Road; main facade to corner (Nos 63-65) 4 storeys and attics; shops at ground. 2-bay corner elevation, projecting slightly at ground, with balustraded balcony over; 10-bay flanks. Polished red ashlar.

Main (corner) facade: 2-bays of canted oriels rise through 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors. Attic storey windows segmentally arched with carved spandrels. Flanking these oriels, 2 tourelles corbelled from angles. at 2nd floor, linked at attics by corbelled balcony with cast-iron balustrade, and at eaves by ashlar balustrade with central clock feature. Lead ogee-dome roofs with lead finials to tourelles. Steeply pitched French roof with cast-iron balustrade.

Symmetrical flanks with near full-height canted oriels (aedicular detail at 2nd floor with a variety of pediment heads) rising to segmental gable with tripartite window. Otherwise single light or bipartite sash windows; plate glass glazing. Continuous string course at 3rd floor cills. Roof balustrade between gables. Some tall wallhead stacks, axial stacks; slate roofs.
