Description
East Station, located at 13 Station Brae in Newport-On-Tay, was built in 1878 and 1879 as a station for the Newport railway, which opened on 12 May 1879. The railway line is attributed to Sir Thomas Bouch, who also constructed the first Tay bridge nearby. The station is situated on a slope, and its east elevation resembles a two-storey, three-bay villa with an added central porch and a low left wing. It is constructed from whinstone, featuring contrasting ashlar dressings and sash windows. The original platform has a single-storey west front with advanced low outer gables that are connected by a timber verandah. The building has end stacks and a slate roof. As of 1990, the former railway bed has been converted into a roadway.
