Description

The Tolbooth and Town Hall in Crail consists of a 16th-century Tolbooth Tower and an 1814 Town Hall. The Tolbooth Tower is a squat, square structure made of coursed rubble, with upper stages and a slated bellhouse added in 1776. The Town Hall, which replaced a town house built in 1602, features a sculptured panel inset and is two stories tall, with the first floor being particularly high. It is constructed of coursed rubble with margins, and incorporates older work on the north side, including a lintel from 1754. A new doorpiece and internal alterations were made by John Currie from Elie in 1886.
