Description
57 Lochaber in Charlestown is a row of four single-storey cottages built in the later 18th century, constructed from rendered sandstone.
On the south elevation, No 56 features a central door flanked by windows, with two additional windows to the far right. No 57 has a central door with flanking windows. No 58 displays three windows to the right and a door to the left, along with a glazed porch. No 59 includes a leaded canted bow gable window and a window in the rear outshot.
The west elevation is the principal elevation for No 59, which has a window to the left and a door with a window to the right. The north elevation was not visible in 2000, and the east elevation consists of rear outshots.
The cottages have 2-pane sash and case windows for Nos 56, 57, and 58, while No 59 has 4-pane windows. No 56 has two replacement windows. The roofs are pitched, covered with black-glazed clay pantiles for Nos 56, 57, and 58, while No 59 has modern tiles. There are slated easing courses, one gable end stack for No 59, and six ridge stacks, with the roof pitch broken for No 59.
The interiors were not seen in 2000.
