Description

32 Cross Row in Charlestown is a row of five single-storey cottages built in the mid to late 18th century, arranged in an L-plan layout. The cottages are constructed from rendered sandstone and feature three symmetrical bays on each elevation.

On the east elevation, each cottage has a central door flanked by windows, with an additional window located in the gable of 34 Charlestown Village. The south elevation mirrors this symmetry with three bays, a central door, and flanking windows.

The west elevation has a plain gable for No 35 and includes contemporary piended extensions at the rear of 31-33 Charlestown Village. The north elevation also features a plain gable with a window in the rear extension set back to the right, associated with 31 Charlestown Village, along with pitched extensions to the rear of 34-35 Charlestown Village.

The cottages at 31, 32, and 33 Charlestown Village have 2-pane sash and case windows, while other windows have been replaced. No 31 has bipartite windows. The roofs of 31 and 33 are covered with concrete tiles, while other cottages have replacement red pantiles; Nos 34 and 35 have a slated easing course. No 31 has a piended roof on the north side, and No 35 has a pitched roof on the west side. There is a drop in roof level from No 32 down to No 33. The row features one gable end stack at No 35, four ridge stacks, and one wallhead stack at No 34.

The interiors were not seen as of 2000.
