23 North Row, Charlestown

19 North Row in Charlestown is a row of six single-storey cottages built in the later 18th century. The cottages are symmetrical and consist of three bays, constructed from rendered sandstone, with pebbledash on No 21.

The south elevation features a central door flanked by windows, although the central door to 19 Charlestown Village has been blocked and replaced with a window. The elevations of 23 and 24 Charlestown Village have been heightened.

The west elevation has a plain gable, while the north elevation includes a contemporary piended rear outshot for No 19 and later mono-pitch extensions for the other cottages. The east elevation has a window.

The cottages have 4-pane sash and case windows at 19, 21, and 22 Charlestown Village, while 23 Charlestown Village has 2-pane sash and case windows. Other windows have been replaced. The cottages feature a continuous piended roof covered with red clay pantiles and a slated easing course, with a flat roof on the heightened section of No 23. No 24 Charlestown Village has a modern clay pantile roof. There are gable end stacks and five ridge stacks.

The interiors were not seen in 2000.
