Description
21 Prinlaws Road in Leslie is a group of later 19th-century mill workers' cottages, consisting of three irregular blocks that face the street and are mostly single storey. The cottages have been significantly altered and extended at the rear. The first two blocks, numbered 1 and 3, form a six-bay structure, while blocks numbered 5 to 19 feature stepped roofs on rising ground, totaling 21 bays. Cottages numbered 19 and 21 are connected by a flat-roofed extension.
The exterior is symmetrical, with a three-bay design made of dark whinstone laid in Aberdeen bond, accented by contrasting dressed ashlar margins, long and shortwork quoins, and stop-chamfered arrises. The central door features a fanlight, with windows located in the flanking bays. The gable end of cottage number 1 has two windows and a projecting chimney breast that reaches ground level, along with a band course above the ground floor.
Most cottages have modern glazing, except for number 13, which retains its original four-pane glazing pattern in sash and case windows, along with a two-leaf boarded door topped by a bipartite fanlight. The roofs are covered with grey slates, with cottages 1 and 3 featuring sawtooth coped skews and angled skewputts, as well as cavetto coped stone stacks with some chimney cans.
