679 Maclaren Place is a long, three-storey tenement building designed by Andrew Wilson of Glasgow between 1934 and 1935. It features shops on the ground floor and combines traditional Glasgow architectural details with popular decorative elements from the 1930s. The main elevation facing Clarkston Road is clad in ashlar stone, while the rest of the building is pebble-dashed with white-rendered verandahs and red brickwork on the upper level, topped with a flat roof.

The west elevation is symmetrical, showcasing a central wall-head stack, large windows with narrow mullions and transoms, and canted windows in alternating bays. Some windows include leaded panels, and there is decorative ironwork over paired bays. The east elevation, which is the rear, features a four-storey central stair tower that projects forward, highlighted by a tall narrow canted window that connects the main entrance to a roof-level balcony, which is fronted by a brick arch. There is a shallow return wing at the south with a tall stair window and a projecting flat segmental hood. Continuous verandahs are present on the recessed first and second floors, with flat hoods above the upper floor doors and wall-head stacks.
