Description
Kirkhouse, located on Humbie Road in Newton Mearns, dates from around 1830 to 1840. This two-storey building features an ashlar stone front facing the garden and is topped with a slate roof, which has skew gables. The façade is three windows wide, with margins that connect to the eaves cornice and blocking course, and includes end pilaster strips. The windows retain their original glazing bars. The central door is framed by a painted architrave and has a cornice above a deeply recessed entry, which is adorned with an elaborate arched traceried fanlight. The rear elevation facing Mearns Road showcases a tall staircase window, painted margins, and dormers. Additionally, there are original garden gatepiers on Humbie Road that feature Gothic panelling.
