53 West Holmes Gardens, Musselburgh

1 West Holmes Gardens in Musselburgh is a building dating from around 1900, designed by William Constable. It is a single-storey and attic terrace, with every outer and every eighth bay featuring a gabled two-storey design that includes full-height canted windows. The exterior is finished in red ashlar, with brick used for the return and rear walls. The entrance features pairs of two-leaf panelled doors, except for No. 53, while the ground floor windows are bipartite, with a centrally placed canted window between the two-storey bays. The building has one and two-light dormer windows situated under the gables. All windows have plate glass in the lower sash and originally had multi-pane upper sections. Each gable displays timber king-post details, and the two-storey gabled bays are adorned with pierced barge-boards. The roofs are covered with slate, sweeping over the single-storey section, and feature red tile ridges.
