St Anne's Convent, Windsor Gardens, Musselburgh

St Anne's Convent, built around 1880, is a two-storey building with attics designed in the Free Renaissance style. It features a balanced single-storey extension on both sides, added in the later 19th century. The convent is positioned along the main approach to Windsor Gardens and has a near-symmetrical façade with five windows on the first floor.

The building is topped with a platformed piended slate roof and constructed from squared rubble with ashlar dressings. It includes quoins, corniced eaves, and raised, lugged margins around the doors and windows. The ground floor windows are corniced, and the doorpiece is also corniced, topped with a semi-circular shell pediment.

The slightly advanced central bay contains a door flanked by a window on each side. Above, there are two first-floor windows beneath a truncated crow-stepped gable on a corbel table, with stepped detailing around the first-floor window heads. Between two chimney stacks, there is a pair of arched windows set under a balustrade. To the left, there are two first-floor windows and one ground-floor window, while to the right, there is one first-floor window and a bipartite ground-floor window. Each side of the central gable features a semi-circular headed dormer, and there are twin tympan end stacks with a bipartite window between them. The windows are four-pane sash windows.
