Description
Rood Well in Stenton is a 16th-century wellhead featuring a circular section and a conical roof. It is constructed from squared and coursed cream sandstone rubble and stands 5 feet 4 inches high. The entrance is located on the north side and measures 4 feet 2 inches high. As of 1989, the well is filled. The stone roof consists of overlapping blocks that overhang at the eaves. The finial includes a rope-moulded neck, a short shaft, and rosette carving, although the top feature is missing. There is also a wrought-iron curved gate. Additionally, there is a retaining wall made of rubble, which is coped and segmental in shape.
