Description

9 Viewforth Terrace in Tranent is a near-symmetrical terrace of nine houses built between 1900 and 1905, featuring a single storey and attic. The terrace consists of 19 bays, with three of them being two-storey sections. It is constructed from squared and snecked grey sandstone, accented with ashlar dressings and stone mullions.

The southeast elevation showcases a two-storey gabled centre and outer bays that break the eaves, each adorned with full-height canted windows, complete with cornices and blocking courses. The single-storey linking bays each have a canted window at the center, flanked by doors and bipartite windows. On the left side, there are two single doors, while the right side features one paired door, two paired doors, and one single door. All doors are panelled and topped with plate glass fanlights. Above each single-storey bay, there are gabled, slate-hung dormer windows, and timber mullioned bipartite dormers above the bipartite and canted windows, with single dormers positioned above the doors.

The end elevations are blank and include set-off stone stacks. The sash and case windows have a plate glass glazing pattern, with small-pane upper panels predominantly found in the canted and dormer windows. Timber kingposts are present at the gableheads, although three were missing as of 1989. The roof is covered with purple slates and terracotta ridge tiles, featuring coped ashlar stacks at the ends, ridge, and mutual gable, with terracotta cans still in place.

Additionally, there are low retaining walls made of squared and snecked grey sandstone with ashlar coping.
