Description

This building, located at 65, 67, and 69 Castle Street in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, is a later 19th-century, two-storey tenement with a rectangular plan and ten bays. The exterior features stugged snecked rubble with random rubble at the rear, painted ashlar architraves, and rusticated quoins, topped with a slate roof.

The windows are single, corbelled, and architraved, adorned with fleuron lintel decoration, and there are decorative triangular cast-iron window guards on the first floor. The building also includes two-storey canted windows with cornices on the first floor and piended roofs. The front features plate-glass and four-pane sash and case glazing, while the rear has eight-pane windows. There are blocked keystoned doorcases with fanlights, and a segmental entrance at the close for number 63. The cast-iron rainwater goods display lion head motifs at the gutters, and the roof is punctuated by a corniced ridge and gable stack, along with corniced and shouldered wallhead stacks that are rendered on the west gable.

On the southeast elevation, there are seven bays on the left, with a stair entry at the center, and windows at the ground and first floors on either side. Doors are located at the far left and right, with canted windows at the outer left and right. The right side has three bays, featuring a door at the center and additional doors at the ground and first floors on the left, and a canted window on the right. Monogrammed heraldic shields are positioned over the principal doorways on the first floor.

The west elevation is blank. The east elevation has a door at the center and windows at the ground and first floors on both the left and right sides.

The north elevation includes a border-glazed bipartite stair window at the center, with two windows at the ground and first floors on either side. There is a truncated brick wallhead stack and two rooflights, with a gable on the left that adjoins and rises above an unlisted terrace.

The interior has not been seen. The enclosing wall consists of a snecked rubble wall with rounded ashlar coping on the south and east sides (with railings removed) and a rubble wall with rounded ashlar coping on the west side.
