Panmure Shipyard, Marine Parade, Dundee

The Panmure Shipyard, located on Marine Parade in Dundee, consists of two-storey workshops built from brick in the later 19th century. It may have been rebuilt after a fire in 1869 and was extended in the early 20th century.

The long range of the building runs north-south between Victoria Dock and the River Tay, with the northernmost seven bays whitewashed. The southern part of the block has been heightened from one to two storeys. The rear is single-storey, featuring short north lights at the north end and a long double-pitched roof at the south.

The elevation facing Victoria Dock has a piended gable for the workshops. There is a three-storey office that has been extended from three to five bays, with an oriel window on the right. A slated awning on timber brackets was added to the ground floor around 1970.

The roof is slate-covered and includes two dividing walls. Most windows are segmental-arched with an eight-pane top-hopper design, while four windows have been enlarged later. The office features sash and case windows with a four-pane glazing pattern.

Inside, there is a timber floor supported by cast-iron columns, and the single-storey sections have steel roof trusses. The office includes timber stair balusters and a decorative collar-beam roof, which may have been recently embellished.
