Description
2, 6, 8 Reform Street in Dundee is a four-storey corner building designed by George Angus in 1832, based on a layout by William Burn from 1824. The building includes shops, offices, and flats and is part of the mostly unified layout of Reform Street. It features painted ashlar stonework and a concealed grey slate roof. The shopfronts are pilastered and balustraded along Reform Street, although the shopfronts at Nos 10-14 have been altered. There is a cill band on the second and third floors, a principal dentilled cornice, and a corniced blocking course at the third floor. The first-floor windows are architraved, while the rounded angle bay has segmental and triangular pediments, a cornice for the two flanking bays, and corbelled architraves on the second floor. The original 12-pane timber sash and case windows have mostly been replaced with 2-pane glazing.
On the Reform Street elevation, there are 11 bays to the right, featuring a central doorpiece with fluted Ionic columns, with shopfronts on either side and 11 windows on each upper floor. To the left, there are 2 bays with a shopfront on the ground floor and 2 windows on each upper floor. The left side has 3 bays with a shopfront on the ground floor and 3 windows on each upper floor.
The High Street elevation includes a shopfront with 2 windows on each upper floor in the original 2 bays on the right, and 5 later bays to the left with pilastered shopfronts and 5 windows on each upper floor. The interior has not been seen.
