Description
9 Lake View Terrace in Powfoot is a two-storey terrace building designed by architect Frank C Carruthers from Lockerbie and Dumfries in 1900. The structure features a curved design and is constructed of red brick, accented with ornamented red terra-cotta bands and some red ashlar dressings, primarily around the lintels.
Each of the houses has two bays with paired doors that are topped by shallow brick arches and a cornice featuring tiny shallow pediments. The panelled doors are complemented by tall fanlights. The ground floor windows are canted, while the first-floor window margins are corbelled inwards at the base and outwards at the top. The terminal bays on the first floor are bipartite and have raised wall-head gables with inscribed panels.
An arcaded eaves band rests on small corbels, and there are brick stacks at the ends of the building. The roof is covered with slate. The terrace is set behind low garden walls made of red ashlar coping, which are topped with square gatepiers, and features wrought-iron gates and railings.
