Description
The North West Range of the farmsteading at Woodhall is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey classical fronted farmhouse that has been divided into two houses. It features a detached courtyard steading to the east.
The south elevation of the house is constructed from coursed and squared red rubble with polished dressings, lugged architraves, and rusticated quoins, while the other walls are either painted rubble or pebble-dashed. The facade has three wide bays, with the outer bays slightly advanced and pedimented. The central door, flanked by sidelights, is not original, and the ground floor windows include one enlarged and one inserted window, both with aprons. The building has coped stacks and is roofed with graded slates. There are wings to the east and north.
The steading is a single-storey structure with lofts, made of painted rubble with ashlar dressings. The west range includes a four-bay main block with wings and an arcaded west-facing cartshed featuring three segmental arches. The elevations have horizontal boarded loft openings, except for the gabled doorway. The other ranges are plainer, and there is a tall long barn to the south, with the horsemill having been demolished. All structures are roofed with graded slates.
