Description
The William Chambers Statue, located on Chambers Street in Edinburgh, was created by John Rhind and Hippolyte J Blanc between 1888 and 1891. This bronze statue commemorates Lord Provost William Chambers and stands on a red sandstone ashlar base. The base features low bronze reliefs that represent Literature, Liberality, and Perseverance. The squared sandstone base has advanced scrolled margined corners that frame decorative panels on the sides. Above this, a corniced and garlanded upper pedestal supports the statue. The entire structure is set on a two-tier octagonal granite plinth at the base.
