Description
8 Newington Road in Edinburgh is a terrace of six two-storey and attic houses, built around 1880. The houses are arranged in two bays and flank No 10 Newington Road. They are constructed from polished sandstone ashlar, with a base course, dividing and eaves cornices, and a blocking course.
The entrance elevation of Nos 12-20 features a corniced doorcase with two column capitals in the outer left bay, a panelled door, and a plate glass fanlight. Above, there is a bipartite window on the first floor and a piend-roofed single dormer. The outer right bay has a full-height, four-light canted window, with a three-light canted dormer above, although No 20 has replacement glazing. The arrangement of Nos 12-20 is mirrored by No 8.
The houses have two-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, glazed cupolas, corniced mutual stacks, and moulded cans. The interiors were not seen in 1995.
