Description

32 Charterhall Road in Blackford, Edinburgh, is a modern geometric house designed by Morris and Steedman in 1962, with extensions in 1970 and alterations in 1979. The house is two stories with a rectangular plan. The ground floor features lime-washed cement-rendered concrete block walls, while the upper floor includes timber fascia, clear glazing, and asbestos panels. A cill course is present at the first floor, along with a cornice and timber transoms and mullions in the first-floor glazing.

On the north elevation, there is a glazed timber door located to the left of the center on a plain white-washed wall, which extends to the right beyond the glazed upper storey. Above, a 12-light band of glazing with opaque square panels beneath can be found. To the left, there is a single-storey coped wing wall.

The east side elevation features two-light glazing with opaque square panels beneath to the right, along with a timber fascia above on the first floor.

The south rear elevation has a plain white-washed wall with two single rectangular lights to the left. An advanced square-plan porch to the left includes a glazed timber door and a single-light window above a painted panel on the return. There is also a two-light rectangular window to the outer left and a 12-light band of glazing with painted timber panels beneath on the first floor above.

On the west side elevation, there is a two-light rectangular window at the center of the advanced ground storey, with a timber fascia above in the recessed upper storey. The house features fixed and pivot sheet glass windows, with the window on the west side being double-glazed. The roof is a three-layer bitumen flat roof finished with white granite chips. Rendered concrete steps with a painted metal handrail lead up from the street to a stepped platt, and a cylindrical lime-washed concrete planter is located to the left of the front door.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1996.
