6 (Inclusive Numbers) Ravelston Terrace

4 Ravelston Terrace is a pair of 2-storey and attic terraced townhouses designed by MacGibbon and Ross, dated 1877, with Nos. 7, 8, and 9 built in 1880. The houses feature prominent shaped gables, timber dormers, and canted bays. The exterior is constructed from coursed squared random rubble with some ashlar dressings, including a banded base course and a banded cill course at the first floor. The eaves are deeply overhanging and adorned with timber dentils. Above the canted bays, there is a large sandstone gable with scalloped corners. The small timber dormers in the attic have timber finials and deep eaves. The main doorways are framed by raised sandstone ashlar surrounds with a consoled cornice, leading to 2-leaf timber doors topped by plain rectangular fanlights. The windows have raised ashlar surrounds, and the attic dormers feature round arched windows.

The windows are predominantly plate glass set in timber sash and case frames. The pitched roof is covered with grey slates and has corniced ashlar ridge stacks with modern clay cans. The property includes cast-iron rainwater goods.

Inside, the houses are characterized by an ornate decorative classical scheme, featuring cornicing and several fireplaces throughout. The large drawing rooms on the ground and first floors incorporate the canted bays. There is a cantilevered dog leg staircase with corniced cupolas. Some parts of the building have been converted into flats in 2009.
