Description

This is a two-storey and attic house, built in 1910 with later alterations. It features Arts and Crafts Queen Anne detailing and includes a detached gig house to the southwest.

The northwest elevation, facing St Mary’s Place, is of polished ashlar stone. The central bay has a tripartite doorway within a segmental arch, featuring a panelled door with a keystone and pedimented lintel, a multi-pane fanlight, and side lights. There is a window above on the first floor. Bipartite windows are present on each floor of the bay to the left. A curvilinear gabled bay projects to the right, with a cavetto moulded coping, a two-storey canted window, and a window in the gablehead.

The southeast elevation has a glazed porch at ground level with a lined render base and a half-glazed door. A timber balustrade sits above the porch. A tripartite and transomed window is positioned above the porch on the first floor, and bipartite windows are placed on each floor of the bay to the left. Two windows are at ground level in the bay to the right, with a bipartite window above on the first floor.

The later gig house/garage is set back to the southwest, featuring a segmental-arched opening with a two-leaf boarded door, and a sandstone finial. The rear of the gig house/garage projects and is rendered, with a boarded door and fanlight to the left and a bipartite window to the right.

The windows are timber sash and case, with a six-pane upper sash and plate glass lower. The roof is piended slate, with a slate-hung box addition to the southwest and a rendered addition to the northeast at attic level. The gig house has a half-piended slate roof with terracotta ridge tiles and a finial. There are two sandstone coped wallhead stacks on each side of the main house, partially linked to the roof by dormer additions.

The interior is largely intact. The vestibule has a mosaic tiled floor, and the interior features fine stained glass in the vestibule door and partition, stair window and first-floor bathroom. Decorative plasterwork is evident, with a simple design to the hallway and stair, and an ivy and vine design in a principal room on the first floor. Fine fireplaces are found in the main rooms, with a ceramic surround to the principal room on the first floor. Two fireplaces have been removed. Strip-panelled doors are fitted with brass finger plates.

The boundary walls are of bull-faced sandstone with battered coping, originally with railings. Tall, slender gatepiers with pyramidal heads complement the property.
