Description

1 Bellevue Terrace in Edinburgh is a four-storey and basement, 13-bay, bowed classical corner tenement designed by Thomas Bonnar in 1850. It is part of a larger terraced scheme and is constructed from sandstone ashlar, featuring channelled masonry at the ground level in bays 1, 5, 9, and 11. These bays are framed with Roman Doric pilasters on the first and second floors, while the remaining bays have architraved windows. There is a band course between the ground and first floors that aligns with the architraves of the first-floor windows, along with panelled aprons at the first floor, a cill band at the second floor, a frieze between the second and third floors, a cill cornice at the third floor, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course. The entrance platts extend over the basement, and decorative iron window guards and balconies are present on certain first and third-floor windows.

On the principal elevation, there are timber panelled doors in the entrances with round-arched fanlights located in bays 3, 6, and 11. The remaining bays feature windows set in round-arched recesses, with regular fenestration above and a roof light to the left. The building has timber sash and case windows, mostly with 12-pane glazing, though some have plate glass. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are ridge stacks with terracotta cans and cast-iron railings.

The interior was not seen in 1998.
