Description
14-16 Abbotsford Park is a two-storey, irregular-plan double villa dating from before 1858. The front and north-west elevations are built in cream sandstone, with droved ashlar facing and polished ashlar dressings. The rear and side elevations use squared and snecked stugged rubble with stugged ashlar dressings.
The north-east elevation, facing Abbotsford Park, is three bays wide. A central doorway has a round arch, a keystone, and pilaster flanking. The doorway is fitted with a panelled door and a semi-circular plate glass fanlight. A single window is located above the doorway on the first floor. A gabled bay is slightly advanced to the right and features a two-storey canted window (1-2-1 design), with stop-chamfered reveals and a half-piend roof. Bipartite windows have recessed stone pilasters on the ground and first floors in the left bay.
The north-west elevation, facing Albert Terrace, is M-gabled and has a main block of four bays to the left. A round-arched entrance doorway, having recessed pilasters, a panelled door, and a semi-circular plate glass fanlight, is located in the bay to the right of centre. A single window is positioned above the door on the first floor. A bay to the left of centre contains blinded windows. The outer bays contain single windows on both the ground and first floors, with a wallhead stack present. A recessed rear wing is situated to the right, with single windows on the ground and first floors in the left bay, and another wallhead stack.
The south-east elevation, also facing Albert Terrace, is M-gabled, with a main block to the right featuring a single window to the outer right and a small wallhead stack on the return. A recessed rear wing to the left has a single window to the first floor on the right and a wallhead stack. A single-storey garage abuts the property.
The south-west (rear) elevation is two bays wide; The left bay has tripartite windows on both the ground and first floors, while the right bay features single windows on each floor. The windows throughout the building are mostly timber sash and case with eight panes, with some plate glass and small-pane windows to the rear and sides. The roof is slate, with lead flashings, and five wallhead stacks, along with tall ventilation cans.
The interior was not inspected in 1992.
A low rubble boundary wall with saddleback coping runs along the front. A taller rubble wall with semi-circular and flat stone coping borders Albert Terrace and includes a garage door, flanked by two blocked-up coal openings with droved margins.
