62, 63 And 64 South Bridge, Edinburgh

53 to 59 South Bridge in Edinburgh is a row of Classical tenements, built around 1790, possibly by Robert Kay. The building has three storeys and an attic, consisting of five blocks with seven bays each, featuring shops on the ground floor, some of which have been altered. The outer blocks have pedimented end gables that face Drummond Street to the south and Infirmary Street to the north, with central lunettes in the pediments. The construction includes ashlar stonework at the front and rubble at the rear, with a band course and cill course at the second storey, and a cornice. The dormers are pedimented, piended, and canted. Some of the shopfronts are made of timber.

The shopfronts at Nos 53-59 are two-storey timber structures with panelled stallrisers, slim mullions, cornices, and fascias. The first storey windows have moulded timber architraves, with one window featuring fluted consoles and ball finials above.

There is a later attic storey added to 1 Drummond Street. The windows are predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case, with plate glass on the ground floor and some blank windows. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are tall, coped gable and ridge stacks, along with wallhead stacks at the rear.
