Printing Works, 30-32 Maritime Street, Edinburgh

The Printing Works at 30-32 Maritime Street in Edinburgh, designed by George Craig in 1894, is a four-storey, five-bay warehouse featuring plain classical details and a vertical emphasis. The front is made of red sandstone ashlar, while the rear and sides are constructed from squared and snecked stugged cream sandstone, accented with stugged red sandstone dressings. Architectural elements include a base course, a string course above the ground floor, a cill course at the first and second floors, an eaves cornice, and depressed-arch openings at the ground level. The second-floor windows have panelled aprons, and full-height pilasters slightly advanced divide the arched bays, which are fitted with ashlar mullions.

On the northwest (front) elevation, there is a keystoned doorway at the center, topped with a small open scrolled swan-necked pediment and broader pediments above the flanking pilasters. A secondary doorway is located to the outer left. The first and second floors feature bipartite windows, while the third floor has windows with timber mullions and transoms. The roof includes three Velux rooflights.

The southeast (rear) elevation has a ground floor supported by a steel lintel held by cast-iron columns, with recessed windows behind, which were part of a former link to now-demolished rear buildings. The outer left bay has single windows, while the remaining bays and floors contain bipartite windows.

The northeast elevation is a truncated gable with paired truncated stacks and irregular single windows, some of which are blocked. The building has modern timber sash and case and casement windows, a slate roof with metal flashings, and a moulded eaves gutter with gutterheads. The interior was not seen in 1993.
