Description
This is a two-storey, three-bay villa dating from around 1875, with alterations carried out in 1894 by Hippolyte Jean Blanc. It includes a service wing and has been sensitively subdivided. The villa is constructed of squared and snecked sandstone with polished ashlar dressings, incorporating base, dividing and eaves courses, a cornice, raised long and short quoins, and segmental-arched windows with raised surrounds, chamfered reveals, and fillet details.
The western, or entrance, elevation features a central, advanced round-arched doorpiece with detached contrasting stone columns and carved capitals supporting a hood with two paterae, a bracketed cornice, and decorative wrought-iron brattishing. The doorway is roll-moulded and has a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight. A single window is located above the door. To the outer right of the elevation is an advanced tripartite window with a bracketed cornice at ground floor level, with a single window above. A single window is placed at ground and first floor to the outer left.
The southern, or garden, elevation has an advanced bay to the outer right, featuring a canted window with a cornice and brattishing at ground floor level, and a single window above. A central roll-moulded doorway gives access to a two-leaf French window and fanlight, with a single window above. A canted window with a cornice and brattishing is positioned in a bay to the outer left, with a single window above.
The northern elevation presents a service wing with a secondary entrance at ground floor level. A single window and a round-arched painted glass stair window are located at first floor level.
The eastern elevation displays a small pebble-dashed extension advanced to the outer right and a doorway leading to a former conservatory or outbuildings. There are three single windows at first floor level.
The windows are plate glass sash and case with small panes to the east. The roof is a grey slate piended roof with lead flashing, four corniced stacks with octagonal cans, and eaves guttering.
The interior of number 7 was decorated by Blanc in 1894, featuring ornate plaster mouldings throughout. The entrance hall has wainscot panelling and an encaustic tiled floor. The drawing room is particularly richly decorated, including a fireplace, frieze, and paired fluted Ionic columns. An upstairs flat was not inspected during a 1990 survey.
High, coped rubble boundary walls enclose the north side of the property, bordering Kilgraston Road and Dick Place. A segmental-arched ashlar pedestrian gateway with a bracketed cornice is situated on Kilgraston Road. Detached garages are located to the east.
