52 Shandwick Place in Edinburgh is a three-storey and attic, six-bay symmetrical Free Renaissance tenement building designed by John McLachlan in 1879. The building features smooth sandstone ashlar and includes shop premises on the ground floor. The right-hand shop front has a consoled fascia, while the penultimate bays are canted from the first floor to the attic level. There is a band course on the first floor adorned with scalloped tympana and a shell motif. The second floor has bracketed cill courses and moulded architraves around the windows, leading to a consoled eaves course. The canted attic bays are topped with segmental pediments and acanthus tympana. At the attic level, there is a cast iron guilloche parapet and pedimented recessed dormers.

The shopfronts feature plate glass windows, and the upper floors have plate glass in timber sash and case windows. The roof has a shallow double pitch M-section design covered in grey slates, with a central corniced ashlar ridge stack that includes modern clay cans. The building also has cast-iron rainwater goods.
