Description

15 Stafford Street in Edinburgh is a terrace of buildings likely designed by Robert Brown around 1819 to 1824. It features nine bays, including two two-storey, three-bay classical townhouses and a prominent three-storey, three-bay corner block with a breakfronted pedimented bay in the center. The structure includes a basement and attics, and there is a four-bay return to Alva Street with blind openings on the right-hand bays.

At the ground floor of No. 13, there is a later timber and glazed shopfront in a plain classical style, featuring a radial glazing pattern and an entrance to the townhouse located to the far right. The building is constructed of sandstone ashlar, with channelled ashlar at the ground floor. It has a base course, a band course between the ground and first floors, a banded cill course at the first floor, and a corniced eaves course. The rectangular dormers include bi-partite windows for No. 13.

The windows are predominantly plate glass in timber sash and case style, with some featuring 12-pane configurations. There are also 15-pane glazing in fixed timber frames and double-glazed double timber doors at the ground floor shopfront. The building has sandstone skews and is covered with grey slates. The apex of the corniced ashlar pediment and the gable end stacks have modern clay cans. Additionally, there are cast-iron rainwater goods and cast-iron railings edging the basement recess for Nos. 11 and 15.
