Upper Craigend Cottages, 60 Kingston Avenue, 58, Edinburgh

Upper Craigend Cottages, built around 1870, is a row of single-storey polychrome brick cottages. Number 40 is detached, while numbers 42 to 56 form a terrace, and numbers 58 and 60 are two-storey with an external stair at the rear. There are later extensions to the rear of the cottages. The buildings are constructed of red brick with pale brick used for the segmental-arched, chamfered door and window surrounds, quoins, and decorative brick cornice. They feature bracketed cills and brick voussoirs, with some original timber panelled doors still in place.

The cottages have 8-pane glazing and timber sash case windows, although some have modern glazing. The polychrome brick stacks are corniced and topped with polygonal cans. The roofs are covered with graded grey slates, although numbers 50 and 52 have been replaced with modern tiles. Some cast iron downpipes with decorative brackets and hoppers are also present.
